WILL YOU HELP US BUILD A HOME FOR HEROES?

 

Operation Home for Heroes is a campaign to transform the former Marine Corps Reserve Center (MCRC) on Jackson Ave into the new headquarters and transitional supportive housing for AOVS veterans. The property—22,000 square feet on 6.5 acres of land—will strengthen our ability to serve veterans experiencing homelessness and disabled veterans in the Memphis area with expanded housing capacity, additional services, and streamlined operations.

 

We are thrilled to share that veterans have already moved into the facility, marking a significant milestone in our mission. This property has made it possible to offer so much more than we ever imagined 35 years ago—a full gymnasium, art and music rooms, expanded storage, streamlined operations, increased urban farm capacity, and transitional housing.

 

But this dream-come-true is not without a price—renovation and construction costs are roughly $10M. A generous lead donor has graciously committed $5 million, bringing us closer to our goal. However, additional support from donors like you is essential to complete the renovations and equip the facility to fully serve our veterans.

 

Although many of our veterans have moved in, and some have successfully transitioned to permanent housing, there is still work to be done! Your support will help us finalize the renovations and fully equip our art, music, and horticultural therapy programs, ensuring every veteran in need has a place to call home and the resources they deserve to succeed.

​WHY IS THIS URGENT?

Simply put, time is running out! There is a limited window for completion of renovations to the MCRC which has been granted to AOVS. Veterans Affairs (VA) requirements still in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic mean we are having to house 10 veterans in a local hotel. We must open these residences soon!
